Marcie Applegate is Nouveau 2011’s second featured visual artist. An established Mahoning county creative, she brings her works to the festival for the first time. Check her out at http://www.etsy.com/shop/FlybirdDesigns AND http://www.facebook.com/pages/Flybird-Designs/133815163909?ref=mf
from Marcie’s bio: A native to the greater Youngstown, Ohio area, I received a BFA in Studio Art from Youngstown State University after beginning my academic studies at the Columbus College of Art & Design.  My jewelry consists of various materials—silver, bronze and copper metal clay, metals, found objects, and semi-precious stones. I enjoy working with organic textures and complex forms, yet love simplicity. The spontaneity of this material greatly adds to the creative process and the outcome can be as refined, rough or organic as I’d like. The abundance of natural artifacts is a constant source of inspiration for my metal clay jewelry—shorelines, forest floors, backyards and parking lots are overflowing with treasures. The texture and patterns of found objects take new form as I manipulate the clay to capture nature’s spirit. Working with this medium is an extremely satisfying process, as it fuels my passion and love of nature with little gifts to the soul in the form of wearable art.

Nouveau’s artist series has featured some of the valley’s most accomplished and important artists.  This year is no exception with the announcement of our first of the pair of featured artists, Jenn Cole.
“Liberty, Ohio-based mixed media artist Jenn Cole works to present you with the poetry of dreams and imagination, formed from photographs, vintage letters, paint, and ink. Her pieces are the result of an education in fine art and painting from Westminster College, as well as years of experimentation with various mediums and abstract work that focused on nature.
She now works as a full-time studio artist and creates one-of-a-kind original art that is both rich in color and subject matter. The collected bits of ephemera that serve as the foundation for many of her pieces speak of times past, and connect the viewer through emotion and craft. ” -Avaliving.com
